ChemOvation launch - intriguing and innovative
combinatorial chemistry
A new entrant to the drug discovery arena is
ChemOvation (based in Horsham, West Sussex, UK). The group, which
has a major backer in the Novartis Venture Fund, a strong supporter
of exciting young technology companies, started operations in April
1999. They promise a range of innovative compound libraries to give
the strongest possible lead-generating potential.
Science Director, Ian Matthews, with 20 years
experience in drug discovery, is confident that ChemOvation has
something unique to offer:
"Our research has shown that pharmaceutical
companies need to speed up drug candidate realisation, and are looking
for improved combinatorial chemistry services. All ChemOvation compound
libraries have high purity levels and are supported by a distinctive
physicochemical information package, which fills these criteria."
In addition to the core combinatorial chemistry
business, ChemOvation has plans for other services. "We intend
to offer characterisation services such as thermodynamic and kinetic
analysis of binding events, and a metabolite identification service",
says Linda Hugl, Operations Director. "And we shall also focus
on reaching small-to-medium sized enterprises, with the aim of effectively
becoming their chemistry department".
